Victoza Cost in 2026: Brand, Generic and What You'll Really Pay

By The RX Index Editorial Team · Last verified

The Victoza cost at list price is $543.51 for a 2-pen pack and $815.27 for a 3-pen pack. That's about one month at the 1.2 mg or 1.8 mg dose. Generic liraglutide, the FDA-approved generic version, can cost much less. With insurance, your plan sets your price.

The catch: we couldn't find a Victoza savings card on Novo Nordisk's sites, and brand Victoza is in limited supply. Below we show the real price by dose, how the generic compares, and what Medicare caps in 2026.

The RX Index is the independent GLP-1 decision resource that scores telehealth providers and treatment paths on clinical legitimacy, care quality, transparency, access, and cost, so readers can choose the path that fits their situation.

List price is what Novo Nordisk charges wholesalers before discounts. Novo itself says most people with insurance don't pay it. Your exact price comes from your plan or pharmacy.

Victoza is only one way to treat type 2 diabetes with a GLP-1. If the price has you rethinking your options, the best fit depends on your insurance, your budget, and whether you'd rather take a daily shot, a weekly shot or a pill. The RX Index's Find My GLP-1 Path tool is free, takes about 2 minutes and needs no signup.

How much does Victoza cost per month by dose?

Victoza's monthly cost depends on your dose, because your dose decides how many pens you use. Each Victoza pen holds 18 mg of liraglutide. At 1.2 mg a day, one pen lasts about 15 days, so a 2-pen pack covers about a month. At 1.8 mg a day, one pen lasts about 10 days, so you need a 3-pen pack each month.

How much does Victoza cost per month by dose?
Daily dose (from the label)Pens used in about 30 days (our math)Pack Novo sells for that doseVictoza list price
1.2 mg22-pen pack$543.51
1.8 mg33-pen pack$815.27

Novo's own price page matches this. It labels the 2-pen pack for the 0.6 mg and 1.2 mg doses and the 3-pen pack for the 1.8 mg dose. Think of it like gas mileage: the pen is the tank, and a higher dose empties it faster.

Your dose is your prescriber's call. Victoza's label starts at 0.6 mg a day for one week, then 1.2 mg, and allows 1.8 mg if blood sugar needs more help. A 2-pen pack covers the starting week too.

How much is Victoza without insurance?

Without insurance, brand Victoza starts from a list price of $543.51 for 2 pens or $815.27 for 3 pens, and pharmacies set their own cash prices. Generic liraglutide is usually the cheaper cash option. One pharmacy that posts its price, Cost Plus Drugs, lists a 2-pen box of generic liraglutide for $87.80.

Here is what that Cost Plus price includes, as posted on October 29, 2026:

How much is Victoza without insurance?
Cost Plus lineAmount
Manufacturer cost$72.00
15% markup$10.80
Pharmacy labor$5.00
Drug price, 2-pen box$87.80
Next-day refrigerated shipping, added at checkout$55.00
Total before tax (our math)$142.80

Three things to know before you count on that price:

  • It was out of stock when we checked. Cost Plus said it expects it back around November 12, 2026.
  • It's for a 2-pen box, about a month at 1.2 mg. Cost Plus fills the amount your prescriber writes. Using its posted formula, we estimate a 3-pen fill for the 1.8 mg dose at about $129.20 for the drug, plus shipping. That's our estimate, not a quote.
  • You still need a prescription. Cost Plus also says it can't promise which maker's generic you'll get.

Cost Plus lists "retail price at other pharmacies" for the same box at $615.99. Prices at your local pharmacy can be very different, so ask for the cash price of generic liraglutide, not just "Victoza."

Is there a generic Victoza?

Yes. Generic liraglutide for type 2 diabetes is sold in the US. Teva launched an authorized generic of Victoza on June 24, 2024, which Teva called the first-ever generic GLP-1. Hikma got FDA approval and launched its own generic in December 2024.

An authorized generic is the brand-name medicine sold without the brand name. FDA's drug directory now lists generic liraglutide in Victoza's 2-pen and 3-pen packs from several companies, including Hikma, Meitheal, Biocon and Cipla.

Generic liraglutide is also easier to find right now. FDA's drug shortage list shows brand Victoza as "limited availability," with no end date given. The same list shows generic liraglutide from Hikma, Meitheal and the Teva-distributed version as available. For package-by-package status, see our GLP-1 shortage tracker.

If your pharmacy is out of Victoza, ask your pharmacist or prescriber whether generic liraglutide can be filled instead. Don't switch products on your own.

Is there a Victoza savings card or coupon?

We found no Victoza savings card on Novo Nordisk's sites when we checked on October 29, 2026. Novo's NovoCare page for Victoza offers only an insurance coverage check, and Novo's current diabetes savings card terms don't list Victoza.

Novo's 2026 Patient Assistance Program (PAP), which gives free medicine to people who qualify, is also unclear for Victoza. Victoza.com still points readers to the PAP. But Novo's 2026 PAP product list doesn't include Victoza, and NovoCare says some medicines were dropped from the program for 2026. Call the PAP at 1-866-310-7549 to ask before you apply.

The PAP is only for people with Medicare or no insurance who meet income limits. People with commercial insurance, Medicaid, Extra Help or VA benefits can't use it.

How much does Victoza cost with insurance?

With insurance, your Victoza cost is whatever your plan charges: a copay (a flat amount) or coinsurance (a percentage). Novo says Victoza is covered by most major health plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. To check your own price, call Novo's Victoza line at 1-877-484-2869 or ask your pharmacy to run the claim.

Two questions to ask your plan:

  • Does it cover brand Victoza, generic liraglutide, or both? Your plan may charge a different amount for each.
  • Do you need prior authorization? Prior authorization is a permission slip from your insurer before it pays.

How much does Victoza cost with Medicare?

With Medicare Part D, your plan sets your Victoza price, but your yearly out-of-pocket costs are capped. Under Medicare's 2026 rules:

  • Your Part D deductible can't be more than $615 in 2026 ($700 in 2027).
  • After the deductible, you pay 25% coinsurance until your out-of-pocket spending on covered Part D drugs reaches $2,100 in 2026 ($2,400 in 2027). Then you pay $0 for covered drugs for the rest of the year.
  • The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan can spread your costs across the year. Medicare says it doesn't lower what you pay.

Say you're 68, take Victoza 1.8 mg, and your plan's price is based on the $815.27 list price. That's a hypothetical, but it shows why the cap matters: 25% of $815.27 is about $204 a fill (our math), so costs add up, and $2,100 is the most you'd pay out of pocket for covered Part D drugs in 2026. Your plan's real price may be lower.

Manufacturer savings cards can't be used with Medicare. Our guide on why Medicare patients can't use GLP-1 savings cards explains the rule.

Victoza cost vs other diabetes GLP-1s

Victoza is a daily shot. Some weekly diabetes GLP-1s now have maker cash prices that can beat brand Victoza's list price, though generic liraglutide can still cost less.

Victoza cost vs other diabetes GLP-1s
MedicineHow oftenCash or list price we found
Victoza (brand)Daily shot$543.51 (2 pens) or $815.27 (3 pens) list
Generic liraglutideDaily shot$87.80 for 2 pens at Cost Plus, plus $55 shipping
Ozempic (semaglutide)Weekly shot$199 a month for a new patient's first 2 fills of 0.25 or 0.5 mg through December 31, 2026, then $349 (up to 1 mg) or $499 (2 mg) through NovoCare
Trulicity (dulaglutide)Weekly shotStarting at $389 a month through LillyDirect

These are different medicines with different labels and results, so price is only one part of the choice. For how they compare on A1C, heart benefits and side effects, see our guide to the best GLP-1 for diabetes.

Is Victoza used for weight loss?

Victoza's FDA label covers type 2 diabetes, not weight loss. The liraglutide brand approved for weight management is Saxenda, a different, higher-dose product. FDA's shortage list says Saxenda will be available until it's discontinued in January 2027. If weight loss is your goal, see our Saxenda insurance coverage guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Victoza cost a month without insurance?

Brand Victoza's list price is $543.51 for 2 pens, about a month at 1.2 mg, and $815.27 for 3 pens, about a month at 1.8 mg. Pharmacies set their own cash prices. Generic liraglutide is often much cheaper; Cost Plus Drugs lists 2 pens for $87.80 plus $55 shipping.

Is generic Victoza cheaper?

It can be much cheaper. Generic liraglutide has been sold in the US since June 2024. At Cost Plus Drugs, a 2-pen box is $87.80 before shipping, compared with Victoza's $543.51 list price. With insurance, your plan's tiers decide which costs less for you.

Is there a Victoza coupon or savings card?

We found no Victoza savings card on Novo Nordisk's sites in October 2026. Novo's current diabetes savings card terms don't list Victoza. Ask your pharmacy about generic liraglutide instead.

Does Medicare cover Victoza?

Novo says most major plans, including Medicare, cover Victoza, but your Part D plan's drug list decides. In 2026, your out-of-pocket costs for covered Part D drugs are capped at $2,100. Savings cards can't be used with Medicare.

Why is Victoza hard to find?

FDA's drug shortage list shows brand Victoza as limited availability, with no end date. Generic liraglutide from several makers is listed as available, so ask your pharmacist and prescriber about it.

How many Victoza pens do I need a month?

It depends on your dose. Each pen holds 18 mg, so at 1.2 mg a day you use about 2 pens a month, and at 1.8 mg a day about 3. Your prescriber sets your dose.

Can I get Victoza for free?

Possibly, but it's unclear for 2026. Victoza.com points to Novo's Patient Assistance Program, but the program's 2026 product list doesn't include Victoza. Call 1-866-310-7549 to ask.
