Saxenda Cost in 2026: What You'll Really Pay, and Cheaper Options

By The RX Index Editorial Team · Last verified

Saxenda costs $1,349.02 at list price for a box of 5 pens, which lasts 30 days at the full 3 mg daily dose. Brand cash prices run close to that. Generic liraglutide 3 mg, the FDA-approved generic of Saxenda, costs about half: $716.50 a box at Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs, before shipping, as of November 4, 2026.

With insurance, you pay your plan's copay, if your plan covers weight-loss drugs at all. Saxenda has had no savings card for new patients since 2023, and the brand is being discontinued in January 2027. Weekly options like Wegovy now have lower cash prices than brand Saxenda. Here's every number, where it comes from, and what it means for you.

The RX Index is the independent GLP-1 decision resource that scores telehealth providers and treatment paths on clinical legitimacy, care quality, transparency, access, and cost, so readers can choose the path that fits their situation.

The short version: if you're paying cash for brand Saxenda, you're paying the most of any option on this list. That doesn't mean you have to stop treatment. It means you have choices.

If a weekly shot is on your mind, Ro posts its cash prices for Wegovy and Zepbound, and says they match NovoCare and LillyDirect. Ro's membership is billed separately.

How much does Saxenda cost without insurance?

Saxenda's list price is $1,349.02 for a 5-pen box, according to Novo Nordisk's pricing site. Each pen holds 18 mg of liraglutide. At the full dose of 3 mg a day, that's 30 days per box.

Here's what that works out to:

How much does Saxenda cost without insurance?
Time periodSaxenda at list price
Per day$44.97
Per 28 days$1,259.09
Per 30-day box$1,349.02
Per year (365 days)About $16,400

Our math, from the $1,349.02 list price.

List price isn't always what you pay at the counter. Pharmacies set their own cash prices. One useful benchmark is the government's NADAC survey, which tracks what pharmacies pay to buy a drug. As of November 4, 2026, pharmacies paid on average about $1,306 for 30 days of Saxenda ($87.04 per mL, 15 mL). Pharmacies usually charge more than they paid, so expect brand cash prices near or above that.

Two smaller costs are easy to miss. Pen needles aren't included with Saxenda, so you'll need a separate prescription or purchase for them. And your first box lasts longer than 30 days, because you start at 0.6 mg a day and step up each week.

How much does generic Saxenda cost?

Generic Saxenda is real and FDA-approved. FDA has approved three generic versions of Saxenda: from Teva (August 2025), and from Biocon and Orbicular, marketed by Cipla (both February 2026). They contain the same drug, liraglutide 3 mg, in the same 5-pen box.

What we found on November 4, 2026:

How much does generic Saxenda cost?
Generic liraglutide 3 mg (5 pens)PriceNotes
Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs$716.50 ($701.50 drug + $15 pharmacy fee)$771.50 with standard shipping; listed in stock
What pharmacies pay (NADAC)About $709 for 30 days$47.27 per mL x 15 mL; your cash price will be higher at most pharmacies
Saxenda brand, list price$1,349.02For comparison

At Cost Plus, generic liraglutide 3 mg is $632.52 less per box than Saxenda's list price, or about 47% less. For a full year, that's about $8,700 before shipping, versus about $16,400 for the brand at list.

Cash prices for the generic vary a lot by pharmacy, and discount-card prices change often. We couldn't verify discount-card prices today, so we don't list them. Call two or three pharmacies and ask for the cash price of "liraglutide 3 mg, 5-pen box, the generic for Saxenda."

Two cautions:

  • Don't mix it up with the Victoza generic. Generic liraglutide also comes in 2-pen and 3-pen boxes. Those are generics of Victoza, a diabetes drug, and are cheaper per box. The weight-loss generic is the 5-pen box. Our Victoza cost guide covers the diabetes version.
  • Teva's generic is being discontinued. FDA's discontinuation list shows Teva's 5-pen liraglutide (NDC 0480-7250-46) as discontinued from manufacture, posted May 14, 2026. Biocon's and Cipla's versions are still listed as marketed products. Ask your pharmacy which maker it stocks.

How much does Saxenda cost with insurance?

If your plan covers Saxenda or its generic, you pay your plan's copay or coinsurance. That can be a few dollars or a few hundred, depending on your plan's drug tier and your deductible. Novo Nordisk's own pricing page notes that most people with insurance don't pay the list price.

The catch is whether your plan covers weight-loss drugs at all. Many plans leave them out. Plans that do cover them often require prior authorization, and some now prefer the generic over the brand. The Saxenda label also says to stop if you haven't lost at least 4% of your body weight after 16 weeks, so expect your prescriber to check your progress around then.

Coverage is its own deep topic, so we cover it in separate guides:

If you have Medicare: Medicare drug plans generally don't cover drugs used for weight loss. The new Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, which started July 1, 2026, charges $50 a month, but it covers only Foundayo, Wegovy and Zepbound KwikPen. Saxenda and generic liraglutide aren't on the list. See our Medicare GLP-1 Bridge guide.

If you have commercial insurance and take Teva's generic: Teva's copay card says you may pay as little as $20. It's only for people whose commercial plan covers Teva's liraglutide. You can't use it if you're paying cash or have government insurance. Per-fill and yearly maximums apply. The card expires December 31, 2026, and it works only for Teva's NDC 0480-7250-46, which is being discontinued.

If your plan won't cover Saxenda, check whether it covers a weekly GLP-1 instead. Ro's free insurance checker looks at coverage for Ozempic, Wegovy and Zepbound pens. It doesn't check Saxenda. Ro also says its team handles the prior authorization paperwork. Ro says Medicaid patients aren't eligible for treatment on Ro.

Is there still a Saxenda savings card or coupon?

No. Novo Nordisk closed the Saxenda Savings Offer to new patients on June 30, 2023, and cards already activated ended December 31, 2023. Some older web pages still show a "$25" Saxenda offer. That offer is gone.

What's left:

  • Teva's generic copay card, for commercially insured patients only (see above).
  • Pharmacy cash prices and discount cards, which vary by store. Compare before you fill.
  • Novo Nordisk Customer Care at 1-800-727-6500, if you want to ask about Saxenda supply before it ends.

Is Saxenda being discontinued?

Yes. Novo Nordisk says it's discontinuing Saxenda, with last shipments to wholesalers in late January 2027. It says the decision isn't related to any safety or quality concern.

FDA's drug shortage database, checked November 4, 2026, lists Saxenda as "Limited Availability" and says the product "will be available until discontinuation in January 2027." Pharmacies may run low before then.

What this means for your cost:

  • Brand Saxenda won't get cheaper. There's no savings card, and supply is winding down.
  • The generic is the like-for-like swap. Same drug, same dose, about half the cash price at Cost Plus. Your prescriber can write it as liraglutide 3 mg.
  • A weekly GLP-1 may cost less than brand Saxenda. That's a different medicine, so it's a conversation with your prescriber, not a pharmacy swap.

Our GLP-1 shortage tracker follows supply across GLP-1 drugs.

Saxenda vs cheaper weekly options: cost compared

Here's what each option costs in cash, from the maker's own pricing pages, as of November 4, 2026. Saxenda boxes last 30 days. Wegovy and Zepbound fills last 4 weeks (28 days), so a year takes 13 fills.

Notes on the table:

  • Zepbound's $449 needs on-time refills. LillyDirect's $449 price for 7.5 mg and up applies if you refill within 45 days. Otherwise it's $499 for 7.5 mg and $699 for 10 to 15 mg.
  • Wegovy's $199 intro is limited. It's for new patients, for 2 fills at the starting doses, through December 31, 2026.
  • Ozempic isn't on this list because it isn't FDA-approved for weight loss. Our Saxenda vs Ozempic comparison explains the difference.

Is the switch worth more than the savings? In the STEP 8 trial, adults without diabetes on weekly semaglutide 2.4 mg (the Wegovy dose) lost 15.8% of their body weight over 68 weeks, versus 6.4% on daily liraglutide 3 mg (the Saxenda dose). That's one trial, and your results may differ. But it's the only head-to-head test of these two doses. For how all three drugs compare, see Wegovy vs Zepbound vs Saxenda, and for every option ranked, see our best Saxenda alternatives.

What a weekly GLP-1 costs through a telehealth service

If you don't have a prescriber, a telehealth service adds a fee on top of the medicine. Here's Ro, as an example, from its pricing page on November 4, 2026. Ro says its cash prices for Wegovy and Zepbound match NovoCare and LillyDirect. The membership is separate:

What a weekly GLP-1 costs through a telehealth service
Through RoMedicine (per 4-week fill)Ro membership (per month)Total
Wegovy pen, monthly plan$349$149$498
Wegovy pen, 12-month prepaid plan$349$74 ($888 a year)$423
Zepbound KwikPen 7.5 to 15 mg, monthly plan$449$149$598
Zepbound KwikPen 7.5 to 15 mg, 12-month prepaid plan$449$74 ($888 a year)$523

Ro's first month of membership is $39, refunded if you're not eligible. Its 6-month and 3-month plans are $89 and $99 a month. Ro has a Saxenda page, but it doesn't post a Saxenda cash price; it says Saxenda's cost depends on your insurance. Our Ro GLP-1 cost guide has the full breakdown, and our cheapest Wegovy without insurance guide compares other ways to buy it.

Even with a $149 membership, Wegovy through Ro ($498) costs less per fill than generic liraglutide at Cost Plus ($716.50) and much less than brand Saxenda at list ($1,349.02).

How to pay less for Saxenda or its generic

  1. Ask for the generic. Ask your prescriber to write "liraglutide 3 mg" so the pharmacy can fill any maker's version.
  2. Compare cash prices. Call a few pharmacies and check Cost Plus Drugs. Prices for the same box vary widely.
  3. Check your coverage first. If your plan covers the generic, your copay will likely beat any cash price.
  4. Use Teva's card only if it fits. It's for commercial insurance and Teva's version only, through December 31, 2026.
  5. Plan for January 2027. Talk to your prescriber now about whether to stay on liraglutide or move to a weekly option.
  6. Only buy from licensed U.S. pharmacies. A "Saxenda" deal from an unlicensed website isn't a deal.

Safety notes before you switch

Saxenda, its generic, Wegovy and Zepbound are all prescription drugs. Do not use if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid cancer (MTC), or if you have MEN 2. Saxenda may harm an unborn baby, so stop it if you become pregnant and tell your prescriber. Stop and get medical care if you have severe stomach pain that won't go away, which can be a sign of pancreatitis. Saxenda's label says not to use it with any other GLP-1 drug, so your prescriber should plan any switch.

Frequently asked questions

How much is Saxenda per month without insurance?

Saxenda's list price is $1,349.02 for a 5-pen box, which lasts 30 days at 3 mg a day. Cash prices at pharmacies are usually close to that for the brand. Generic liraglutide 3 mg is about half, $716.50 at Cost Plus Drugs before shipping, as of November 4, 2026.

Is there a generic for Saxenda?

Yes. FDA has approved three generic versions of Saxenda, from Teva, Biocon and Orbicular (sold by Cipla). Ask for "liraglutide 3 mg, 5-pen box." Teva's version is being discontinued, so your pharmacy may carry Biocon's or Cipla's.

Does Saxenda have a savings card?

No. The Saxenda Savings Offer closed to new patients on June 30, 2023. Teva has a copay card for its generic, but only for people with commercial insurance that covers it, and it expires December 31, 2026.

Why is Saxenda so expensive?

Saxenda is a brand-name drug with a list price of $1,349.02 per box, and a box covers only 30 days because it's a daily shot at a high dose. There's no manufacturer cash program for it. Generic liraglutide and weekly options now cost less in cash.

Will Saxenda be available in 2027?

Novo Nordisk says last shipments to wholesalers will be in late January 2027. FDA lists Saxenda as available until then, with limited availability. Generic liraglutide 3 mg from other makers is still listed as marketed.

Is Wegovy cheaper than Saxenda?

In cash, yes. Wegovy is $349 a month from NovoCare ($199 for the first 2 fills for new patients through December 31, 2026), versus $1,349.02 list for Saxenda. With insurance, it depends on which drug your plan covers.

Does Medicare cover Saxenda?

Generally no. Medicare drug plans don't cover drugs used for weight loss, and the $50-a-month Medicare GLP-1 Bridge covers only Foundayo, Wegovy and Zepbound KwikPen. See our Saxenda insurance coverage guide for details.
